In The National Programme of Environmental Protection, Republic of Serbia has set itself seven general causes of problems in the environment. Lack of strategic environmental planning policy in local communities is one of them. In order to examine the real situation and determine the size of the problem, our expert team conducted a research for each municipality in 2012. Two results of this study are very important:
1) Only 44 out of 145 (30%) local governments in the area of central Serbia and Vojvodina, have the strategy of environmental protection.
2) The lack of strategy grows with a reduction in the level of development. 11 out of the 23 municipalities that belong to the first group of the most developed have the strategy, while only 8 local governments out of the 46 municipalities, in the fourth group (least developed),have adopted it.
